Name that player!

The Dodgers won the offseason with their signing of Shohei, whose .964 OPS from 2021-23 was second only to Aaron Judge. The two-time AL MVP ranked eighth in Offensive WAR and 11th in Pitching WAR in 2023.

No. 10, Strong Wrists Are Necessary: Long distance hitters like O'Doul know the value of powerful wrists, which give the ball the last extra ounce of drive that sends it over the fence. Many boys who begin with weak wrists develop into strong hitters by constant exercise. One method practiced by major league players is to carry small rubber balls in each side coat pocket (handballs usually) which they continually squeeze as they sit in their hotel rooms or walk along the streets. In time the exercise develops the wrists to the proper degree of strength and allows them to swing a bat with increasing force.

The young Dodger hurler is back this year after spending the '51 season in the Army. Billy attracted the Big League scouts with his sensational high school pitching. In 1948 he tossed 4 no-hitters and led his school to the New York City Championship. In 1950, his only year with the Dodgers, he was used mainly in relief. With Nashua in '48, he pitched a no-hitter and had an 11-3 record. He won 5 games for Fort Worth in '49.
