Stormin' Gorman Thomas is one of baseball's most exciting performers. He is a premier home run slugger and a gifted defensive outfielder with excellent speed and a fine arm. Originally signed by the Brewers in 1969 when they were the Seattle Pilots, he spent six seasons in the minors and was even briefly traded away to Texas before making the majors. It was a spectacular season at Spokane in 1977 in which he hit .322 with 36 homers and 114 RBI that earned him a shot with the Brewers.
Used in relief by Brewers until last September, Jerry won his first 3 starting assignments, two over Cleveland & one over New York. He then pitched a long relief outing to pick up a victory vs. Red Sox at Fenway Park in the heat of "pennant fever". He has good control & spots pitches.
COMMENTS: Strong fastball sector light-outside/med-outside vs. RH. STRENGTHS: Waist-high fastballs vs. RH, med-outside curves vs. RH. WEAKNESSES: High-inside fastballs vs. RH.
