Nationals Card of the Day

Cade Cavalli
Cade logged just 24 appearances on the farms before making his Washington Nationals debut on August 26, 2022. Equipped with the best fastball and slider in the organization according to Baseball America, he struck out 30.2% of the batters he faced during his Minor League climb. His 175 whiffs as a first-year pro in 2021 topped all farmhands by eight.

Nationals Coffee Talk
Name that player!

When Dom returned to Citi Field in April, the Mets toasted him with a video tribute. Their loss was Washington's gain. He made a brilliant play that night, invoking memories of so many similar ones in New York.

The Washington Nationals assumed they would have a long-term solution behind the plate when they traded Max Scherzer and Trea Turner to the Dodgers for Keibert (among others) in 2021. Ruiz has done nothing to dissuade that opinion. Last year, he ranked very high among NL catchers in runners caught stealing, pickoffs, doubles and strikeout percentage.

Clippard, who won his MLB debut on 5/20/07 by holding the Mets to three hits and one run in six innings at Shea Stadium, shifted from the Yankees to the Nationals in 2008. His first Washington win came at Seattle on 6/14.

Jeter Downs
Washington jumped at the chance after a Boston roster crunch made Jeter available. The "Derek" namesake, whose carrying tool is power, popped his first Major League home run off Yankees ace Gerrit Cole.
