Phillies Card of the Day

Alex Johnson
Alex has always been among the leaders in hitting in every league in which he has played. In 1964. his debut in the majors, was no exception. Besides being one of the top hitters on the Philadelphia squad, he held his own with the league leaders. Alex is also a top flight defensive player. He started one of the three triple plays the Phils pulled in 1964.

Name that player!

Steve Carlton is without question the No. 1 pitcher in the major leagues and among the finest in the history of the game. The names Steve Carlton and Cy Young have become synonymous as in 1982 Steve became the first pitcher to ever win a fourth Cy Young Award, having previously won in 1972, 1977 and 1980. During his 18-year career he has won 285 games and in 1982 with his 23-11 record, he was the majors only 20-game winner. In addition, he led the NL in complete games (19), shutouts (6), innings (295.2) and strikeouts (286). Steve has 3,434 career strikeouts, only 74 ,short of Hall of Famer Walter Johnson's major league record. Steve Carlton is a marvelously conditioned athlete and is expected to continue to set records of excellence which will stand for generations.

The Phillies couldn't be happier with the acquisition of Bryce in 2019 in what then was the biggest deal in Baseball history. He's hit .282 and averaged 36 homers and 16 steals per 162 games since. In 2021, he was the NL MVP Award winner, leading the loop in both slugging and OPS while walking 100 times. He dominated in the 2022 Postseason (six HRS in 17 games).

Bobby, possessor of one of the strongest throwing arms in baseball, finished second in fielding among shortstops in 1963.
