Richie Ashburn nicknamed "Whitey" is a Nebraska-born boy who led N.L. in stolen bases in 1948 (32). Hit safely in 23 consecutive games, May 9 through June 5, 1948 for a N.L. record for a first-year player. In 1951-1952 he tied for the lead in double plays by an outfielder. Led N.L. in number of PO's 1949 through '52; in 1950 led in triples (14); In '49 tied for lead in times at bat (662). Played In '48 and '51 All-Star games batting .500 in each.



Curt's first major league Shutout was a 3-hit masterpiece vs. Pirates, 6-8-92. Pitched Shutout at Montreal, 6-23-92. Spun 5-hit Shutout vs. Padres, 7-22-92. Curt is a World War II history buff.



Nick's son Liam shook his father's hand after he hit a roundtripper, 7-19-23.

Bill Nicholson
"Swish" ranks 2nd among active National Leaguers in Grand Slam Homers with 8. A Washington College (Md.) graduate, he led the League in Home Runs in 1943 (20) and 1944 (33) and also led in Runs Batted In with 128 and 122. Chosen on the Major League All-Star Team in '45, Bill started in pro ball in '36. He joined the Cubs in '39, hitting .295 in 58 games. His best batting marks were .297 in '40, .294 in '42 and .309 in '44. He was traded to the Phillies in October, 1948.
