Curt Simmons
By Sept. 2 of last season, Curt had piled up a 17-8 record. He was a cinch to be a 20-game winner. But his National Guard unit was activated. Off Curt went to the Army. He is considered one of the best pitching prospects discovered in recent years. The Phils landed him, after his graduation from high school. Pitched first big-league game on the last day of the 1947 season.
