He was the leading rebounder for the New Orleans Buccaneers for three campaigns and ranked 5th, 2nd & 3rd in the ABA those years with averages of 12.2 ...

When the Stars found themselves in an early season slump in 1972-73 they inserted Gerald into a starting forward position. In 20 Games after that move he doubled his Point Total, raised his Shooting Percentage to the best of his ABA career and he averaged 12.8 Rebounds Per Game.

Merv made University of Utah starting lineup as a sophomore. He was an important cog on fine Redskin team which made NCAA finals. Merv led Western Athletic Conference in scoring as a junior and as a senior.
