John "Bull" Schweder, now in his third year with the Steelers, came to Pittsburgh from the Baltimore Colts. Graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1950 with a degree in Marketing. While at Penn, he received All-American mention. Was chosen for East-West Shrine game and played on the 1950 All-Stars team that defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 17-7.

Jerry Shipkey
Jerry, one of the best defensive backfield men in pro football, is in his fifth year with the Steelers. He came to the team from UCLA where he played football and made a new record for shotput. He is known as a dependable fullback who can get three or four yards per carry. In 1951, when Pittsburgh led the league with 30 interceptions, Jerry accounted for 6 of them, one a beautiful 58-yard return.
