Alex Karras

Still recognized as one of the most agile pursuers of rival passers, Alex is a master in the technique of using his hands and arms to fight his way past would-be blockers into enemy backfields. Picked as an All-Pro four times, his brother Lou is a former tackle with Washington and his brother Ted is a former offensive guard with four NFL clubs. Another brother also played Big Ten football.

Alex was once a pro wrestler.

An amazing speedster for a man his size, Roger was once clocked at 5.4 seconds for the 50 yard dash. The giant tackle came to the Lions from the Steelers as part of a big trade.

Who is it?

Bobby was well on his way to another superb season in 1957, when he had a leg broken at the end of the campaign. The injury forced him out of the Lions' final contests. Still, he helped get them in a contending position all season.

Who is it?

The big fellow who takes up so much space and seems to be in the enemy backfield all afternoon is Gil Mains. He can ram through defenses to cross up the cleverest plays and maul opposing passers.

Doak Walker

Comes into pro football with a brilliant collegiate record for Southern Methodist. Has won many awards. In the Rice-SMU game, Oct. 15, 1949, was knocked unconscious when tackled out of bounds. Removed from field. When the contest was finished, Doak entered the Rice dressing room, and congratulated the player on his fine game.
