Joe was signed to a bonus contract by the Giants in 1954. A talented ballplayer, he has played second, third, short and the outfield in the major leagues. Joe compiled a solid .291 average in the minors.

Al is a graduate of Duke University where he received his degree in mathematics in 1956. He was one of the first players selected by the Colt .45's in the NL player draft of 1961. Off to a slow start last season, the speedster batted close to .350 during the second half to boost his season mark to .285, second best on the club. He led the club in triples with nine and in walks with 72.
