When they want to praise a first-baseman," they say "He might be another Sisler." George Sisler was without a doubt one of the greatest players ever to hold down the initial sack. He was a picture fielder, making sensational, difficult plays look easy and, as a hitter, his lifetime average of .341 over 16 seasons talks for itself. There was nothing he couldn't do on a ball field. He won the American League batting crowns in 1920 and 1922 with averages of .407 and .420 respectively; he set a record for hits in a season with 257 in 1920 and batted safely in 41 consecutive games in 1922 for another league mark. Today, Sisler keeps his hand in baseball as Chairman of the National Semi-Pro Baseball Congress.
