More relaxed after his switch from shortstop to center field, Harvey can go back to his specialty, which is lining hits at a drum-fire pace. At season's end, he will probably be on the list of leading hitters.

Harv was a top Big Ten shortstop at Wisconsin. He collected over 200 hits in his first two big league seasons.

Steve Gromek

Steve began the 1953 season with the Cleveland Indians, his only other major league team, and after appearing in 5 games for them, was traded to the Tigers. In a total of 24 games, Steve won 7 and lost 9. In 1951, with the Indians, he tied a major league record for the most putouts by a pitcher with 5 in a game. Began in baseball in 1940 with Flint. Was with Cleveland for a while in both 1941 and 1942. Returned to them at the end of 1943 and stayed there until the trade.
