Chick Gandil
Charles Gandil, first baseman of the Washington American League team, was born in Minneapolis, Minn., in 1889. First played professionally in 1907, with the Carranea Club of the Cactus League. In 1908 he was with Shreveport, of the Texas League, but was drafted by St. Louis Americans in the fall, and turned back to Shreveport in 1909. In the fall of that year Chicago Americans purchased his release. He played there for the season of 1910, but hit lightly, and was sent to Montreal of the International League, where he played in 1911. In June of the 1912 season he was purchased by Washington for $9000.
