A fractured hand kept Hank from playing the entire '53 season. In '52, he was voted the N.L.'s Most Valuable Player, blasting 37 Homers and leading the League with 121 RBI's. Hank started in '37 and was up with Cincy 3 times before joining the Cubs in '49. Since then he's averaged 30 Home Runs per year.
Hank was the fans' choice for the 1950 All Star game. The N.L. Mgr. didn't want to use him. Disturbed by this, Hank went 0 for 2. But in '52 Hank silenced his critics by smashing a 2 run HR beating the AL Stars 3-2!

Hank Sauer
Since Hank has been in the Big Leagues, he's averaged 1 homer in every 16.8 times he's come to bat. He ranked 6th in the National League in Home Runs in 1951 and smacked 35 in 1948, 31 in 1949 and 32 in 1950. After 3 trials with the Reds he made the grade in 1948 and was traded to the Cubs the next year. In 1947, playing for Syracuse, he was named the Minor League Player of the Year, hitting 50 homers and batting .336.
