Understanding Your Museum Journey
-- Curator of Collections, Card Cyber Museum
What is the Museum Journey?
Think of your Museum Journey as a trail of footprints showing where you've been exploring during your visit. As you move through different major areas of the museum — like the Team Exhibition Rotunda, the Great Hall, or the Card Motion Theater — each gateway you pass through gets added to your personal journey trail. It might look something like this:
Museum Journey: Teams • Sets • Theater
Some of the gateways you might encounter on your journey include:
- Teams - The Team Exhibition Rotunda, where you explore cards organized by your favorite franchises
- Champs - The Atrium of Champions, celebrating sports' greatest legends and moments
- Discover - The Great Hall, showcasing our complete card set collections
- Favs - Your personal Dashboard, which provides access to the cards you've favorited
- Browse - The Browse Card Sets area, a searchable index of every card set in the Museum
- Library - The Museum Library, featuring baseball literature and archival articles
This isn't a traditional breadcrumb trail showing where you are in a hierarchy. Instead, it's a record of your exploration path—the major museum areas you've visited during this browsing session. It helps you remember where you've been and makes it easy to jump back to any area you visited earlier with a single click.
Why is This Different?

Most websites use breadcrumbs that show your current location in a rigid site structure. These trails can become cluttered and confusing as you drill down through multiple levels. The Museum Journey is smarter: it only tracks the major gateways you've entered — the big rooms and halls that serve as starting points for exploration. When you're looking at individual cards or browsing within a section, your journey stays clean and focused on the major areas you've discovered.
This approach respects how people actually explore museums: you remember visiting the baseball wing and the trophy hall, not every individual display case along the way. The Museum Journey captures that natural way of thinking about your visit.
Using Your Journey
Your journey appears in two convenient places throughout the museum:
- On card display pages - Look for "Museum Journey:" at the top of the page, showing your trail and making it easy to navigate back to previous areas
- In the navigation bar - Click the footprint icon (👣) to see your complete journey at any time
Each gateway in your journey is clickable, allowing you to instantly return to that area. And if you've visited three or more gateways, you'll see a Clear link that lets you start fresh — perfect for when you want to begin a new exploration session or, as we like to say, when you need to "clear your tracks" and start over!
A Journey Built Just for You
Your Museum Journey is personal and temporary. It exists only for your current browsing session and resets when you close your browser or log out. This means each visit to the museum is a fresh adventure, with your journey building organically as you explore. There's no clutter from old visits, no confusion about where you were weeks ago — just a clean record of today's exploration.
As you continue browsing, you'll find that the Museum Journey becomes an invaluable companion. It helps you backtrack to areas of interest, reminds you of the paths you've taken, and makes navigating our extensive collection feel natural and intuitive. It's one of the many ways we've designed the Card Cyber Museum to feel like a real museum visit rather than just another database search.
Welcome to your journey. Start exploring, and watch as your unique path through the museum unfolds. Every visit tells a different story.
