Larry Bird has always been considered one of the most talented players in the NBA. But, during the 1990/91 season, Bird showed just as much determination as talent. Bird missed 22 games during the season because of a painful back injury. Frequently, when he did play, Bird had to lie on the floor when he was out of the game to keep his back loose.

In 1992-93, the 7-0 Nigerian rejected 55 more shots (342) than any other player, led all centers in steals (150) and was second in defensive rebounds (785). He captured 74% of the possible votes.
Funderburke, a rugged-rebounding power forward from Ohio State, has spent the last three seasons playing overseas. He was the Kings' workhorse in the 1997-98 pre-season, leading the team in minutes per gome (24.3) and scoring overage (13.9).
