Blue Jackets Card of the Day

Jason Chimera
Chimera was acquired by the Blue Jackets at the start of the 2005-06 season. He quickly proved his worth to the Columbus faithful, scoring a goal in his first game with the team, a 3-2 victory against the Blackhawks on 10/9/05. The forward had another offensive outburst in his first home game with the club, lighting the lamp twice on 10/21.

Name that player!

Anisimov heated up during the stretch run of the 2011-12 season, posting five goals and seven assists in the Rangers' last 23 games (including the postseason). He had three two-point games in the playoffs, including Game 1 of the East Finals with a goal and an assist in a 3-0 victory against the Devils.

To kick off his third NHL season with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2021-22, Merzlikins rattled off victories in his first four appearances and gave up only six goals over the span. He capped the run by making 31 saves to backstop the Blue Jackets to a 4-1 victory over the visiting Dallas Stars on Oct. 25. He played his 100th game on March 13, a 6-4 home win over the Vegas Golden Knights.

Denis has let his play do the talking over the last two seasons. In fact, in 2002-03 he set an NHL record with 4,511 minutes played. Last year, he improved his save percentage to .918. He continues to evolve into one of the NHL's top netminders.

Back to the Front! Blue Jackets card back du jour...

Jody Shelley
Shelley is the nicest guy in the world away from the rink, probably, he says, because "I leave my aggression on the ice." In Columbus, he reigns as the club's enforcer, much to the delight of the locals. On October 19, 2002, with Florida tough guy Peter Worrell in town, fans chanted, "Shelley... Shelley," hoping he would show the Panthers who's boss. The two indeed mixed it up, battling to a draw.
