Red Wings Card of the Day

Doug Barkley
Doug topped all defensemen in soph NHL season last year with 11 goals. Missed winning rookie of year award in 1962-63 by two-tenths of a point, and Red Wing management was so miffed by the vote that Doug was handed $1,000 bonus.

Name that player!

Two seasons ago, Parker developed into a sudden sensation, scoring 33 goals, after years as a journeyman forward. Started slowly last season but came on to pick up 21 more goals. Parker proved to be a slick wing mate for Gordie Howe's set-ups.

Acquired from Chicago in June, 1962, Doug missed rookie honors by two-tenths of a point. Has 19 goals in three NHL seasons, mostly off the point.

Al ("Don't call me Junior") broke into NHL with the Canadiens, was traded to the Rangers in June of '61, and then, in mid-season of 1963-64, to the Red Wings. A good skater for a big man, Al teamed up in Montreal and New York with Doug Harvey. Sparked Wings into playoffs.

Alex Delvecchio
Baby-faced cigar smoker, Alex won Lady Byng Trophy last season on strength of good start. Tailed off toward end of season. Also made second all-star team at left wing, after being switched from center, where he had put in seven NHL years.
