Devil Rays Card of the Day

Josh Lowe
Josh settled in nicely in right field in 2023, collecting extra-base hits and steals at a steady clip. On May 11, he ripped a bases-clearing double and two-run bomb in consecutive at-bats against the Yankees.

Name that player!

Kevin, a poster boy for modern defensive metrics, has become dangerous at the dish, as well. The Rays sorely missed the overall package when he was out with a broken hand in 2016, going 14-34 (.292) in his absence, compared to 48-54 (.471) in his starts.

Defensive metrics confirm what is obvious to the naked eye: Kevin's center-field play is wondrous. Since 2015, his 25 defensive runs saved per 1,000 innings (min. 2,000 innings) lead MLB outfielders by far.

Rays skipper Kevin Cash raved about Randy's athletic ability after the offseason acquisition hit.400 with nine walks and only two strikeouts in his first dozen Spring Training games with the team. The energetic outfielder showed similar promise in brief action with the Cardinals in 2019 before he was traded in a five-player shuffle in January 2020.

Kevin Kelly
Kevin had been making steady progress in the Cleveland organization before he was taken by Colorado in the 2022 Rule 5 Draft and immediately dealt to Tampa Bay. With a nasty sweeper and a track record of strike-throwing, Kelly made the Opening Day roster. He won his first three decisions out of the bullpen against the Red Sox, White Sox and Yankees.
