Chico cracked 20 home runs which broke the all-time record of 19 by a Red shortstop. His biggest day at the plate was against the Cubs in 1966 when he socked four homers in a double-header!
Frank McCormick was the most valuable player in the National League last year according to the votes of the baseball writers. For the third consecutive season, he batted over .300, this time .309, drove in 127 runs, hit 19 homers and 44 doubles and bagged a total of 191 hits, while fielding a brilliant .995. And when it comes to "Iron Men". McCormick may well be the next, as the end of the 1940 season brought his number of consecutive games to 462. McCormick has been voted to all three of the All-Star teams since he became a regular with the Reds in 1938.
Art waited a long time to make the Majors and when he finally did, he proved to be the top Redleg hurler. Last season he paced the team with the lowest E.R.A., Most Complete Games (8) and Strikeouts. A busy guy, Art started more games than any other Redleg hurler and intends to keep it that way. Before joining Cincy he had an 18-10 record at Atlanta in '53.
